God’s Promises

God’s Promises

God has made several promises to us throughout the Bible. He may not say the exact words “I promise” but he does tell us on several occasions that He will do things for us. The ones that I choose to talk about are to accept adversity, His promises of blessings, His promises of Comfort, His promises of what to do when we are discouraged, His promise of what we can do with faith, His promise of what we can do with peace, His promise to fulfill our needs, His promise of what He will do if we are thankful, and His promise that He will give us understanding if we ask for it.

Accept Adversity

˜ Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.  And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

-1 John 5: 14-15

˜ We are told that if we ask God for his help and it would benefit His name, He will give it to us.

˜ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ

-Ephesians 1:3

˜ Define Blessings- A favor or gift from God

˜ God blesses us with gifts so that we can glorify Him and use His gifts for His benefits

˜ For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.

-1 Thessalonians 5: 9-11

˜ God died for us so that when we die, as long as we believe in him we will live in Heaven for all eternity. We should be comforted by this fact. Therefore, we should also spread the comfort to others around us.

˜ Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand Against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me.

-Psalms 138:7

˜ What discourages you?

˜ When we are feeling discouraged God is always here for us

˜ So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

-Matthew 17:20

˜ Define Faith: A good way to define faith is to think of it like a chair. When you go to sit down in a chair, you don’t examine the chair, turn it over, and test it out to make sure that it will hold you. You have FAITH that the chair will hold you when you sit down. You have to have that same amount of faith and trust in God.

˜ God promises us that as long as we have faith in Him, ANYTHING is possible. To have this amount of faith, you have to be very in tuned with God. You need to keep in your Bible and keep your prayer life with Him up.

˜ These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

-John 16: 33

˜God is completely honest with us here. He tells us that we will have bad things happen to us. We should try to be happy about the trials we face because as long as we have God in our life, he will give us peace.

˜ Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

-Matthew 6:8

˜What needs do you have that God could help with?

˜ How can you get the help you need/ want from God?

˜ God knows all of our needs. All we have to do is ask for His help. We can ask for help by praying to God. I can say from personal experience that prayer can do more than you could imagine.

˜ Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

-Proverbs 3: 5-6

˜ Do you trust easy?

˜ Who do you trust?

˜ There is only one person that you can truly trust 100% of the time. His name is God. We don’t always understand what is going on but God ALWAYS has a plan. We may not understand at first what his purpose is but we should be thankful that we do have someone who we can always trust. We should be thankful that God cared enough about us to die for us, to forgive us of our sins, and we should be thankful that God will always be there to guide us.

˜ My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God.

-Proverbs 2: 1-5

˜ In my Bible I have circled every time the word “IF” is mentioned and I put a square on the word “THEN”

˜Verse 1 and 2 tell us that if we will listen to what God has to say and we do the things he says we should then we will be able to understand more.

˜Verse 3: Define discernment (judgment and understanding). This verse is telling us that we need to ask God for judgment and understanding

˜ Verse 4 tells us to search for wisdom as if it were a treasure

˜Verse 5 starts out with the word “THEN”. This whole series of verses is an “if then” statement. If we listen to God and do what he says, ask God for judgment and understanding, and if we search for wisdom THEN we will receive understanding from God
