Heart, Soul, Mind, & Strength

Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving,  that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?” Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.  And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” So the scribe said to Him, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He.  And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” Now when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, He said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” But after that no one dared question Him.

-Mark 12:28-34

Make a chart on a piece of paper that has four sections. The labels for each section need to be Heart, Soul, Mind, and Strength. Divide each of these sections into two columns, one saying Do, and one saying Don’t. In each area, you are going to list character traits of a person who loves God. Have a Bible verse listed that will back up a Christian characteristic. You should include things you need to do as well as things you don’t need to do.

A good way to find these verses would be to look in the back of your Bible for verses on Love, Anger, Strength, Soul, Mind, Heart, etc. Make a list of several different verses and go through them and place each verse that applies in whatever column it needs to go in. Also, look at the Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount for verses.

Also, a list of verses you can check out will be at the end of the instructions and examples. To see the examples in a bigger view, click on the picture. It will open in a new tab.

You now need to make a second chart. This chart should be labeled Loving Others. You need to make two columns. One listing a characteristic for loving others, and the second for a Bible verse that will back up your characteristic.
